Governing Texas

Governing Texas is “the most contemporary, comprehensive text for Texas politics courses.” For its eighth edition, the publishers hired me to design, illustrate, and letter the cover and spine.

The brief listed key elements and concepts of Texas politics and government to be represented, including: the Texas State Capitol building, the oil industry, a recognizable urban skyline or setting, people participating in politics (voting and/or demonstrating), the state flag, and the 2024 election results. The publishers also discouraged the portrayal of Texas clichés or stereotypes like cows, cowboy hats, guns, or other imagery with potentially negative connotations.
